Phaedrus Technologies is based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and is dedicated to providing Quality Industrial Controls, Automation and IT services and products to our clients.

Our Name

Phaedrus (fay-drus) is the greek word for wolf, hence our logo. The name Phaedrus appears in the works of Plato, but we use the reference from the novel "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance" by Robert M. Pirsig. Phaedrus was the nickname given to the novels main character during a period in his life where he essentially went crazy searching for the absolute definition of 'Quality'.

Phaedrus Technologies uses the following applications on various projects and with a number of our clients. The software listed here is part of the open source community and is a small sampling of the tools available. We would like to use this opportunity to credit the hard work and dedication of the individuals involved with these quaility projects.

	Apache - Web Server Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April of 1996. The June 2003 Netcraft Web Server Survey found that 63% of the web sites on the Internet are using Apache, thus making it more widely used than all other web servers combined.
	CaRP - Caching RSS Parser CaRP is a free PHP script which you can use to easily add RSS newsfeeds to your website. It has a multitude of formatting options to ensure that the feeds integrate seamlessly into the look and feel of your site. Keep your site fresh by importing up-to-date content from other sites.
	FreeS/WAN - IPSEC VPN Server FreeS/WAN is an implementation of IPSEC & IKE. These services allow you to build secure tunnels through untrusted networks. Everything passing through the untrusted net is encrypted by the IPSEC gateway machine and decrypted by the gateway at the other end. The result is Virtual Private Network or VPN.
	ht:/Dig - Web Site Search The ht://Dig system is a complete world wide web indexing and searching system for a domain or intranet. As opposed to some WAIS-based or web-server based search engines, ht://Dig can easily span several web servers. The type of these different web servers doesn't matter as long as they understand common protocols like HTTP.
	LCDproc - LCD Software LCDproc is a piece of software that displays real-time system information from your Linux box on an LCD. Various clients are available that display things like CPU load, system load, memory usage, uptime, and a lot more.
	Mojo Mail - Mailing List Application Mojo Mail is an intuitive, web-based e-mail list management system, which runs on any hosting account that can execute custom CGI scripts.
	MySQL - SQL Compliant Database The MySQL database server is the world's most popular open source database. Its architecture makes it extremely fast and easy to customize. Extensive reuse of code within the software and a minimalistic approach to producing functionally-rich features has resulted in a database management system unmatched in speed, compactness, stability and ease of deployment.
	NetFilter - Firewall/NAT Application The netfilter/iptables project is the Linux 2.4.x / 2.5.x firewalling subsystem.It delivers you the functionality of packet filtering (stateless or stateful), all different kinds of NAT (Network Address Translation) and packet mangling. Netfilter/iptables for all kinds of firewalling, NAT or other advanced packet processing.
	Nocc - Webmail Application NOCC is a powerful but simple webmail client. It offers full user security without the use of cookies or an external database. NOCC has full POP3 and IMAP support.
	OpenSSH - Secure Shell Suite OpenSSH encrypts all traffic (including passwords) to effectively eliminate eavesdropping, connection hijacking, and other network-level attacks. Additionally, OpenSSH provides a myriad of secure tunneling capabilities, as well as a variety of authentication methods.
	php - Web Scripting Language PHP is an HTML-embedded scripting language. Much of its syntax is borrowed from C, Java and Perl with a couple of unique PHP-specific features thrown in. The goal of the language is to allow web developers to write dynamically generated pages quickly.
	phpMyAdmin - MySQL Administration Application phpMyAdmin is a tool written in PHP intended to handle the administration of MySQL over the WWW. Currently it can create and drop databases, create/drop/alter tables, delete/edit/add fields, execute any SQL statement, manage keys on fields.
	phpOpenChat - HTML Chat Engine PHPOpenChat is an high performance chat engine, developed in PHP. Online chat can be used for colaboration among employees or between you and your clients.
	Postfix - Mail Transport Agent Postfix is a powerful and simple to configure Mail Transport Agent (MTA). Posfix handles all SMTP functions for users on a system including aliases, bounces and forwarding.
	rdesktop - Remote Desktop rdesktop is an open source client for Windows NT Terminal Server and Windows 2000 Terminal Services, capable of natively speaking Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) in order to present the user's NT desktop. Unlike Citrix ICA, no server extensions are required.
	Samba - SMB/CIFS Server Samba provides seamless integration with existing SMB/CIFS clients and servers. Samba handles file and print sharing with the Microsoft Windows environment and can provide full network domain control for a Windows network.
	Snort - Intrusion Detection Snort is a libpcap-based sniffer/logger which can be used as a network intrusion detection system. It features rules based logging and can perform content searching/matching in addition to being used to detect a variety of other attacks.
	SpamAssassin - Spam Filter SpamAssassin(tm) is a mail filter to identify spam. Using its rule base, it uses a wide range of heuristic tests on mail headers and body text to identify "spam", also known as unsolicited commercial email.
	Squid - Caching Web Proxy Squid is a high-performance proxy caching server for web clients, supporting FTP, gopher, and HTTP data objects. Unlike traditional caching software, Squid handles all requests in a single, non-blocking, I/O-driven process.
	Synergy - Keyboard/Mouse Sharing Synergy lets you easily share a single mouse and keyboard between multiple computers with different operating systems, each with its own display, without special hardware. It's intended for users with multiple computers on their desk since each system uses its own monitor(s).
	vnc - Remote Desktop VNC stands for Virtual Network Computing. It is remote control software which allows you to view and interact with one computer (the "server") using a simple program (the "viewer") on another computer anywhere on the Internet. The two computers don't even have to be the same type, so for example you can use VNC to view an office Linux machine on your Windows PC at home.
	Webalizer - Web Site Statistics The Webalizer is a fast, free web server log file analysis program. It produces highly detailed, easily configurable usage reports in HTML format, for viewing with a standard web browser.
	Webmin - Web Based System Administration Webmin is a web-based interface for system administration for Unix. Using any browser that supports tables and forms (and Java for the File Manager module), you can setup user accounts, Apache, DNS, file sharing and so on.
